Time Trial Down Ha Ling’s Peak

This video is from the final day of a four day climbing camp in Canmore that my training partner Wapoose and I went on in February 2012. This camp opened my eyes to just how much fun spending time in the mountains can be, and how much focus it takes to run on very steep and technical terrain. I am particularly not a very gifted downhill runner, but Wapoose has always been a very talented descender.

I hate how the video doesn’t do justice to the speed that we were actually descending. We ran from the treeline of┬áHa-Ling to the bottom in 16 minutes, which included sliding on our asses when the trail was either too steep or icy to run on. If you look at the video at 50 seconds, you see Wapoose almost go down, yet I only really remember him ever falling once in my life. Whereas I fell twice on that descent alone. Haha.

And if you’re wondering about the music, it’s from Fubar II with Deaner’s band covering ‘Every Rose Has It’s Thorn.’ Such a good song.

Holy shit man that is the coolest winter decent down this amazing mountain. You guys truely know what takes to train..survive …in order to enjoy “living in the kaka”. Thanks for sharing this. Onward and upward.
